چکیده

Bacterial adhesion is the first step in infection of medical devices. Staphylococcus aureus and Staphylococcus epidermidis are the pathogens recovered most often. The effects of subinhibitory concentrations of vancomycin and teicoplanin on the adherence of eight clinical strains of S. aureus and eight strains of S. epidermidis to tissue culture plates in vitro were tested. The mean relative inhibitions of adherence at one-fourth and one-eighth the MIC were statistically different for teicoplanin and vancomycin. Slime production seemed not to be involved in adherence.

Clinical Pharmacology of Teicoplanin in Neonates: Effects and Pharmacokinetics

Teicoplanin is a glycoside antibiotic which consists of five closely related glycopeptide antibiotics with similar antibacterial properties to vancomycin that were first isolated in 1976. Teicoplanin is active against many gram-positive anaerobe microorganisms and is particularly potent against clostridium species. It is also active against most Listeria, enterococci and staphylococci including...

Minimal inhibitory concentration of microorganisms causing surgical site infection in referral hospitals in North of Iran, 2011-2012

Abstract Background: A surgical site infection (SSI) is the most common nosocomial infection after surgery and is the third most common infection in hospitalized patients. The aim of this study was to asses minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of the causing agents of SSI and antimicrobial susceptibility patterns. Methods: This cross-sectional study was done in three referral hospitals in N...

Effect of subinhibitory antibiotic concentrations on polysaccharide intercellular adhesin expression in biofilm-forming Staphylococcus epidermidis.

Biofilm production is an important step in the pathogenesis of Staphylococcus epidermidis polymer-associated infections and depends on the expression of the icaADBC operon leading to the synthesis of a polysaccharide intercellular adhesin. A chromosomally encoded reporter gene fusion between the ica promoter and the beta-galactosidase gene lacZ from Escherichia coli was constructed and used to ...

Comparison of Disc Diffusion and E test methods for Antimicrobial Susceptibility Testing Of Vancomycin in Coagulase Negative Staphylococcus Isolated from Blood Culture

Background and Objective: Reliable methods of detection of antimicrobial resistance are of paramount importance in the treatment and management of infections caused by coagulase negative staphylococci (CoNS). The objective of the present study was to compare and evaluate the performance of disc diffusion and E test (Epsilometer test) methods for antimicrobial testing of coagulase ne...
